Arm Lift

If excessive or loose skin on your arms is causing you discomfort and low self-esteem, an upper arm lift may help reclaim your confidence. An upper arm lift or brachioplasty is a common procedure that removes the loose tissue that causes the skin of your upper arm to sag. With an arm lift, achieving sleeker, more toned arms is within your reach.

How it works

An arm lift is performed under general anesthesia and can be done using a few different methods. If your skin has enough elasticity to shrink around removed fat, only liposuction is performed. If not, one of three incisions is utilized.

A limited incision targets excess skin under the armpit, and a small amount of skin is removed from the area. A standard incision targets skin that hangs down from the underarm to the elbow, removing excess fat and loose skin. An extended incision is continued from the underarm onto the body itself. Typical in patients who have experienced dramatic weight loss, this procedure aims to include loose skin that extends to the sides of the patient’s chest. Liposuction is used in conjunction with each of these techniques as necessary.

What to expect

Your newly contoured arms will be visible immediately after the procedure, and final results can be seen in two to three months. Swelling, bruising, and soreness can be expected but are manageable and will subside after about a week.  Most patients return to work after one to two weeks. It is recommended to avoid lifting heavy objects such as weights or children for two months.
