Nose Surgery

Nose surgery (Rhinoplasty) can fix a problem area that many of us are self-conscious about – our noses! Nasal surgery can be reconstructive, cosmetic, or both. If you’re seeking a more flattering or refined nose, this surgery may be right for you.

Reconstructive nasal surgery (Septo-Rhinoplasty) is primarily performed to fix breathing difficulties but can also offer solutions for birth defects or nasal disfigurement injuries. Reconstructive surgery is typically covered by health insurance.

A nose that is overly large, crooked, has a hump, or has unsightly nostrils, are all common characteristics of someone seeking out cosmetic nose surgery. Cosmetic nasal surgery often addresses breathing problems, but also works to improve the appearance of your nose and boost your confidence.

How it works

Nose surgery removes, or in some cases, adds, small portions of bone and cartilage to the nose to reshape the nasal bridge. Sculpting the cartilage is done for further refinement. During cosmetic surgery, the internal function of the nose can also be surgically improved.

Typically this work is done through the nostrils and leaves either no visible or extremely subtle scars. The operation takes about an hour and is done on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia.

What to expect

No two nose surgeries are the same and for this reason, the surgery is technically demanding. After the procedure, a small splint is applied to the outside of the nose and should remain on for about a week. Swelling and bruising is typically minimal and will fade in about two to three weeks. As swelling fades, improvement can be seen but final results may not be fully visible for six to twelve months.
